Original Works

To continue to uphold the great standards of the work shared by high school students at Drama Festival each year, we would like to encourage you to challenge yourselves in exploring the alternatives of self-expression and bring the best work you possibly can. The ENMU Drama Festival Staff asks that you do not hesitate in displaying your talent for expressing yourself in unique ways.

How to be sure you are bringing your best work:

  • Allow yourself adequate rehearsal time.
  • Memorize your lines well and know what you are saying.
  • Take time to explore and develop your character (personality, history, etc.).
  • Avoid gratuitous language. Anyone can make a point by swearing, so get more creative!
  • Avoid sexual situations that are not appropriate for the high school level. Basically, if you wouldn’t want your mother to see you doing it, perhaps you should reconsider.

Funny!

  • Wit
  • Creative character development (voice, movement, etc.)
  • Good timing
  • Relationships

Not funny!

  • Humor that involves bodily functions
  • Sexual jokes
  • Vulgarities
  • Inside jokes—because nobody gets them but you

Above all, the ENMU Drama Festival Staff encourages you to challenge yourself! Anyone can stand up and spout a few vulgarities, but it takes much more thought to express yourself in alternate ways.
