Digital Cinema Arts

The Digital Cinema Arts (DCA) degree combines academic studies, such as general education, theory, criticism and history, with the creative production skills necessary to create narrative, animated or experimental film. Our approach is to create the total filmmaker. In this program, you will learn screen and playwriting, pre-production, production and post-production, and acting.

As you go through the program, you begin as a crewmember and advance to directing your own films. Each student is required to take 14 professional practice hours focused on producing a short film. Freshmen and sophomores will receive credit for working as set designers, actors, editors, animators, and writers on the final short films directed by juniors and seniors.

You must choose at least two of these eight modules for your emphasis:

  • Acting
  • Animation and Media Arts
  • Art and Sound
  • Camera and Production
  • Computer Graphics, Art and Design
  • Directing the Story
  • Elements of Theatrical Design
  • Music/Sound

When you graduate, you will be qualified to direct, act, write, and design sets. You can work in computer graphics, animation or special effects, sound and light, production, and more.
