Animation, Media Arts and Design

This is a comprehensive program focusing upon moving graphics for broadcast and digital film that is designed to prepare students creatively for the competitive digital video and film production marketplace. Studio classes take advantage of state-of-the-art facilities including two networked graphics and animation computer labs with high-end peripherals. Students will have access to the following labs and studios: drawing studios, ceramic lab, metal working lab, digital and silver photography labs, digital video labs, television studio, and screening facilities.

In addition to the intensive hands-on program that includes work at our local PBS affiliate KENW, students have access to extensive production and exhibition facilities for their senior year exhibition, portfolio, and resume reel production. The program offers competitive internships that will help students gain the experience needed for job placement in the industry. The Animation, Media Arts, and Design Program also offers a certificate program for students in Maya (3-D modeling and rendering) as part of the emphasis. The Art Department has a faculty member certified to teach with Maya, which has been sanctioned by Alias Corporation, the maker of Maya.

The mission and goals of this new emphasis are to direct students towards successful job placement in a variety of post-production facilities. Although sometimes specialized, post-production companies offer a broad range of creative solutions for print, television, film and web for a wide variety of clients. Students graduating from this new emphasis in Animation, Media Arts, and Design will be able to compete successfully for entry-level positions at post-production facilities with the ultimate goal of moving into Assistant Art Director or Art Director positions after accumulating the required work experience.  The real strength of this program is in our relationship with KENW; internships at the broadcast station provide students with work experience that will give them a competitive edge when looking for entry-level positions as graduates from Eastern New Mexico University.
